Capitalism

“The modern joint stock company is a British invention… but the rules need to change as the world changes. Boards should take account of the interests not just of shareholders but employees, suppliers and the wider community.”

What do you reckon ?

Re: Capitalism

And what makes you think they don't already? The most successful companies already do factor in these things, it makes good business sense.

Re: Capitalism

Some may Barry but an awful lot don't. If they did we wouldn't have nmw as a norm for so many workers and less and less being kept on when they become sick or being allowed holidays etc

Something is very wrong in a country where our work force are seeing rights and remunerations going backwards.

Many earn less now than prior to 2005 I was reading the other day. Zero hours contracts being used to keep wages below nmw and stop workers having any rights.

I am really in favour of bosses having a reasonable expectation of their workforce but that has to come with them behaving better too.

I've seen bosses bawling at workers, sacking them when they are having cancer treatments, refusing time for diabetics to have lunch etc I'm convinced they'd get more work out of people who feel they are appreciated.

Shareholders in big companies have as much to gain from better welfare considerations of the workforce as the workers have really.

Looks like a Teresa may quote to me but I'm willing to be proved wrong.

Oh well I was close

Talk a good talk but don't exactly deliver on the promises. Much like most parties really.

Re: Capitalism

Hi

The way forward is perhaps the John Lewis Model, a partnership, with profits shared.

Such a model is not however favoured by the big Unions as it effectively destroys them and certainly removes their political clout.

There has to be recognition for those who start businesses, without them there would be no jobs.

They take the risks, put the money up and stand to lose everything, which paid workers do not.

It is profits that pay wages .

There must however be regulation, the likes of Phillip Green must never be allowed to get away with it again.
