Woolies now pricing in round numbers.

Woolworths has stopped pricing items as ending in 95c or 99c.

In a move that's being touted as a simpler way for shoppers to stick to a budget, Woolworths is moving all its prices to round numbers.

Turning its back on the age-old wisdom that customers put more weight on the dollar figure than the cents on a price tag, the supermarket giant is progressively rounding all its prices to numbers with a zero at the end.

This could mean the end of the almost useless 5c coin so that 10c is our smallest coin. My kids just throw 5c coins away as they just clutter up pockets with useless silver (I am far too mean and pick them all up) but with less than 40% of transactions actually involving cash these days it is probably a sensible move. Just think; 4c worth of petrol free!

Is this happening in the UK? BTW I was really surprised when I visited the UK that you still had copper coins for 1 and 2 pence as 5c (2.5p) has been our smallest coin for donkeys years. Have your copper coins gone yet?

Must be gone at least ten years ago now. Too much competition from poundland no doubt.

Wasn't yours FW Woolworths and a department store? Absolutely no relation to ours which is 100% Australian and a supermarket. This thread is NOT about Woolworths but about rounding prices.

You're not far out Annie.
Just looked it up and apparently all 807 shops closed around 6th Jan 2009.
Seems longer than that though, doesn't it.

Silly me. I thought you mentioned Woolworths. I am not familiar with your shops, not living there.
Sorry I spoke.

Not knowing your shops Bruce I initially thought how lucky you've still got woolworths ! But reading on I see I was wrong.

So I guess it's pricing you want to discuss. Well only thing wrong with this is they never round down always up.
