Baath or BAHth

My old grampy used to say that the difference between the folks in the North & the South was the way they pronounce BATH.
But unlike the old testament SHIBBOLETH story the real infallible way to identify the 2 worlds was that in the north they say "drop in to see us, anytime" and MEAN it.

In the south they say "drop in anytime" and they DON'T mean it.

Re: Baath or BAHth

I say, bath, like a sheep would! (barth!)

I have a friend who says to everyone, ‘Keep in touch’ ! It’s not genuine, it’s just said for the sake of it!

Re: Baath or BAHth

Baff. There's no 'R' in it is there?
Same as it's 'dance', as it is spelt. Only Southerners say 'darnce'.
Wealthy, posh folk. Pah!

Who’s posh? I didn’t think l was!

It was the way, l was brought up to speak! What’s wrong in that?

There are other similar sounding words that l stretch the ‘a’ ie. Fraance, not Frarnce!

I bet you say, Frarnce?!

There's only one 'R' in France too.
It's not "Frarnce" is it?

Yer........BaTH where I come from....but unfortunately we had ours taken out in favour of a shoW Wer....Sitting in your own dirty water for hours on end just doesn't cut it with me. I'm a 'Quickly In and Out' bloke, myself, but don't misunderstand......I'm very thorough....
