Very thoughtful post. I'm not sure what my default would be but I like it when I'm asleep and am dreaming - that way I know it's restorative sleep and I should feel better upon awakening.
Lately I've been having a tough time of it and have had to force myself to eat, just to function.
Sleep is a great healer Ffosse. Sometimes bed is the best place to be. If you just have a mug of soup and a piece of bread or a tin of rice pudding, you will know you have had something and with this cold weather it is important to eat regularly. Take care of yourself.
