Re: Is it time to let Alfie go ?

This is about what is in the best interests of the child, NOT the parents. I think he should be permitted to die in peace without any further ado.

It should be about the family IMO if they can be helped through this then they should be allowed to take him to where ever they feel is best. If it's just about money then I'm afraid we've lost our souls. A child's life can't be measured in money.

Yes Julie I am afraid it can
It costs from about £500000-£750000 a year to keep these poor children alive in PICU
There are many children out there desperate for a bed that can be treated .
THe NHS is failing for lack of funds so costs have to be considered.

It is quite clear the child cannot be cured, so it is a waste of money keeping him on a life support machine, and possibly cruel as well. The NHS needs the money it is spending on the little boy to fund the treatment of those who would benefit from it.

Who are we to say there's no cure ? The parents think there is hope elsewhere wouldn't cost uk a penny. Let them go there and try.

The medical experts know better than the parents, and they say there is no cure, so they should let that poor kid go.

This reminds me of another couple who went against the Doctors advice and removed their child from hospital and went abroad for treatment. They were arrested when they returned BUT, it turns out they were right to do what they did..

Yes I agree let them go.
7 specialists have said there is no hope for the child .
So really they have nothing to lose by talking him to Rome.

In that case they were right but then we have the case of Charlotte Wyatt whose parents fought for her against doctors advice . They won but split up afterwards Charlotte has lived severely disabled with foster parents ever since . They have never looked after her at all.

Re: Is it time to let Alfie go ?

I think the reason they don't want to let him go is because they believe the child will suffer.
If they can get him to Rome safely and he doesn't suffer by travelling, I think he should go.... but if this chance fails, who will be responsible for bringing his body back to the UK and how well will his parents be supported.
There is never an easy answer to these situations!
