Oh, it's all pints and tatts now - and that's just the women!!

Of course, I've always been sophisticated - for a coal miners daughter, that is!!

Lingered for a good while through the 70s - then the 80s, well the clothes got silly ..........
Au contraire. Back in the 50s and 60's the dictionary definition of sophisticated was 'having its naturalness spoilt'

Far more recently it has lost that meaning though it lingers on in words like sophism and sophist

Yes, I remember the clothes from the 60's to the 70's. We were the cats meow. My Mom was an avid fashionista, with her Vogue magazine and Harper's Bazaar.

I had to have had one of the sharpest looking Moms in the neighborhood. She always looked polished wearing the latest designs from New York. Of course she was smart about it, and got some really cool sale items.

She bought some very fashionable items for me too, but it was kind of a waste, when I went to school. Most kids I knew wore jeans and tee-shirts. Lol, so when I showed up one day in a one-piece jumpsuit in black with hot pink design accents, I was the laughingstock of my class. Who knew New York fashion in RI.? I swear my part of the state had no sophistication.

Re: Sophistication .......

In many cases the fabrics we now see used in clothing hardly lend themselves for any sort of sophistication. Fleece for instance is lovely and comfortable but sophisticated ?

Re: Sophistication .......

I don't think I have ever been accused of being sophisticated although I tried

The high of my 'being sophisticated' was taking a filter tipped cigarette from a new boyfriend in the cinema when I didn't smoke, lighting the wrong end and singing my fringe in the flame

I think my husbands nickname for me probably sums it up 'Doodle' the dog from the magic roundabout

I think I look very sophisticated when relaxing in my pjs and dressing gown. I take my inspiration from good old Sherlock Holmes: sophistication personified .
