Re: Making a will

I have a will which I have updated once. Because it is very simple (everything divided equally between three people) I found a suitable book from the library and made it up from that.

Re: Making a will

If it is a straightforward estate then you don't need a solicitor. You can get a Will Pack online and complete the forms which then get checked before you print off the final document for witnessing etc. Thats what my partner and I did. And when he died there was no problem it was accepted fine. And we saved ourselves a lot of money doing it that way.
I haven't made a will. Money has always been in short supply for me and I have never felt the need to spend what little I have in paying a solicitor to state how my merger belongings should be distributed. Also my experience with solicitors has not been very good.

My husband didn't make a will and I had no difficulty at all in obtaining letters of administration and sorting things out myself.

I have had dealings with a number of wills and have seen a great deal of acrimony cause by people favouring one person over another in their wills or changing them at the last moment, wills can be a curse.

I have left a letter for my next of kin to be opened on my death. It concerns my belongings and a couple of small bequest . I think that is sufficient.

Re: Making a will

I paid a solicitor to make my will quite a few years ago, when I got divorced. At the time my daughter was under 18 so I appointed my brother plus a friend of mine as executors. I really ought to get that changed, not just becase my daughter - who will inherit everything - is an adult, but I've realised in recent years that the friend is a bit daft. I wonder how much they will chare just to change the executor?

You should have some document that is witnessed Meg to avoid disputes but like I said you can download a will pack from the internet. If you are interested I could PM you the link.
