Re: dropped my Nikon D800

I had a look at the D850 but at the moment being new the price is a bit over the top for me at £3500. Do we really need cameras with around 46MP?

Like anything that is new there are bound to be some sort of software/hardware upgrades later on

I'm not interested in the megapixels - but the D5 focusing system, tilting touch screen, 4k video and other fab new gubbins will come in very handy for my pro work. I'll probably wait for the first firmware update to iron out any issues then look for a deal

fair comment.

As a pensioner with a fixed income I have to consider other factors

The D810 is a fabulous camera and well up to anything you're likely to throw at it. (Other than the floor like your D800 haha!)

Just heard from insurers and they are arranging for couriers to collect.

Re: dropped my Nikon D800

hope so Steve,it has a lot of sentimetal value as it was paid for out of my dads inheritance money left to me. Daft I know after all it is only a camera but I bought it in May 2013 as a P/X for my D200.
In all the years of photography I have never made a claim for any camera I have owned and don't want this to happen again.

Whether it's daft or not, the D800 is a bloody good camera and deserves to be repaired.

Well it is off to the repairers now. Hope Santa and the elves can fix it. I will have to cough up the first £100 but it is worth it.

Re: dropped my Nikon D800

Well the new Nikon D810 came this morning

I don't care what others say about grey imports or about this company

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Nikon...72.m2749.l2649

AS far as I am concerned I am more than pleased with the purchase, and it came with a user manual ,not a disc as advertised.

Ok very very first impressions comparing with the D800

Immediately the improved hand hold is a real bonus like going back to the D300.
With the D800 I was always struggling with the colour red I have mentioned somewhere before. No problems with this with the D810

Below no editing apart from RAW to Jpeg just to show red is as the flower is. Wind made flower a bit blurred
Nothing about anything else, this is how the camera came

It feels and is actually a bit lighter than the D800 which they claim.

obviously i have not had a chance to give it a thorough workout with all the settings but the improvements are definately noticable. Hopefully later on sometime will be able to post better pictures.

The D800 has now gone back to be examined and hopefully repaired
just got to wait and see
