Engine 'Hunting'? Have You Ever Heard That Term?

I paid nearly £700 recently to have my Countax C300H mower serviced and made 'like new' again! I thought it was a lot of money but it was cheaper than buying a new one at around £4000!

Yesterday, l mowed my lawn but l found when the engine was idle it was making noises, that it didn't usually make? Loud then quiet, loud, quiet. I also noticed that l was having to really press down on the excelerator to make it go faster.
I rang the place where it was serviced and asked why l had paid so much to have my mower to be like new but it was now worse than ever!
They sent a man out today and he said the engine was 'hunting'. l had never heard that expression before?
I know l am not talking about a car here but it is about an engine!
Have you ever heard that term?

Purcell, What does hunting mean? Is it the same as 'labouring'?

Thank You, Swimmy. That has helpful.

Also, the pole thing in the grass collector wouldn't work properly and kept 'crunching' when l emptied the grass collector. That split the plastic around a nut (not me!)

I just had a quick look at your invoice and read the service schedule,, just call them back as it should only be an adjustment of the throttle linkage or the fuel intake
i.e. something sticking !

It's hunting for fuel.....the fuel flow isn't right or it's dirty.

They brought my mower back this morning and said the problem was caused by 'foul' fuel?
I can't understand that as l am always very careful with the items l use for putting the petrol in.
I usually get the petrol from the Shell garage but this time, l got it from the Tesco garage, last week.
They did say, that although Honda engines are great they are very sensitive.
