The problem nowadays is expensive items can fail on a small plastic part you can't buy for love or money. Things are not made now to be repaired so anything of use I keep

Wouldn’t the battery have shown some negative signs of dying before the tablet wouldn’t charge ?

That's what I was thinking Zuleika, they usually just stop holding a charge and need charging more often, long before they expire completely.

in mine there is about 50% of battery life left but it won't charge up

Just out of interest, some weeks ago my phone - Google Nexus 5 (made by LG) - began to lose its charge-holding ability, so I bought a replacement battery.

I didn't hold out much hope for two reasons: I have heard that replacement batteries can't always be trusted, and the phone is several years old now and the problem may be elsewhere anyway.

There is also the problem that the phone is not designed to be opened!

Still, that's what I did and I was pleased to find that it has worked perfectly since. Not bad for £6!
