Indeed. Much nicer than being cooped up in the back of a lorry. They could enjoy the view on the way over. Maybe Boris would like us to provide picnics.

Re: Daftest idea yet! ("Boris Bridge)

I am not saying that I agree with his proposal, I would have to consider the reasons why he feels it is a good idea first BUT....

I remember all the objections to running a railway under the Channel, when it was suggested. We questioned:-
Is it safe?
Do we need it when we have Ferrries?
Shouldn't we use the money for more important things?
Who would want to use it?
....and I was one of the people who was asking those questions!

A few years after the Tunnell was completed, I used it to go on holiday to France. The journey was very relaxing, very efficient ( about 35mins so much faster than the ferry) and you could sit in your own car throughout the journey, doing whatever you wanted. Since that day, I would never again consider using a ferry to go to France.
How can we criticize the idea of a bridge until we know what the advantages and disadvantages will be? Maybe we should wait till we hear more!

Morning Twinkles.

I'm not sure what the advantages are but I think we all know what the disadvantages would be.

Now hang on a minute and think abut it. You could stand on that bridge and when a cruise liner passed underneath you could jump on. Brilliant

And what about fishing off it? you could fish in really deep water for those big fish you never get.

Then come firework night think of the display from it

Have water sports mid channel with view seating on it

Not forgetting bungee jumping competitions with hundreds doing it at the same time on each side. One competition could be landing and bouncing off passing ships

Also fit dock type gates and charge passing ships a fee to used the English channel

Boris good on you, carry on the good work

Re: Daftest idea yet! ("Boris Bridge)

Personally I think its a great idea.
Although I do believe it to be Government softener for the EU with the promise of allowing foriegn influence and money to go into it.

I know we have to keep moving with the times.
My only wish is that if it does go ahead then at least this side of it is built by British Steel not some Dutch or Eastern World country steel so it gives our own much needed work and paid for by the British and run by the British so that any money goes back into our countrys much needed funds.
I am sick to death of foriegn money being invested in Britain and then whatever money it earns being taken out of the country.
Tollgates should be at each end and it is those country's Britain/France that the contracts should go to.
Not sold off to some foriegn conglomerate.
We have seen in the past as with the Dartford crossings (Australian) and toll gate on the M6 (French).
Veolia contracts in water management, waste management, transport and energy services (French)
Plus lets not forget the National Lottery is funding the Canadian teachers pension fund, and there are many more.

I believe my next stop is Hyde Park Corner..

I could think of lots of disadvantages on the Tunnel when they were planning it, but now apart from accidents which can't be foreseen, I can only see the advantages of it. I just think too many people are ready to judge before they have all the details.

I agree Longfellow, the British and the French should be the ones who make money from it.

It would be nice to have a bridge. It's not a new idea. But we don't need it. We already have a tunnel which does the same thing. Where is the money for it?

What would be helpful is a bridge to the isle of Wight. How can we be proposing a second connection to another country when we cannot easily get around our own?

Re: Daftest idea yet! ("Boris Bridge)

When you think about it, maybe a Bridge should be built across the ATLANTIC, instead!

Wow! We could pop over to do our shopping.

We could name it the "Bridge Of Ridiculous Ideas Specialists"

Re: Daftest idea yet! ("Boris Bridge)

I don't think we need worry about it as it wont be built in our lifetime that's for sure.

Actually I don't think building it would be a bad idea although it would be a logistical nightmare, not just building the bridge and the cost but its a very busy shipping lane.

Unfortunately anything Boris suggests is considered ridiculous, I don't think its ridiculous but I agree we need more info.
