Carpet Crawlers

Love this track.

Anyone ever worked out a definitive meaning?

Re: Carpet Crawlers

Afraid not as with many prog bands the lyrics often left me bemused, i used to like the little stories Peter Gabriel told before each song Genesis performed.

Re: Carpet Crawlers

Difficult isn't it?

I've thought of one or two meanings and read several others.
Either the song was incredibly well written as to keep us confused, or it was simply a collection of verses that actually meant nothing - just clever wording.

Did that make sense? - I've had a few glasses of wine...

In any event - I love sitting down listening to this undisturbed with my headphones on.

Re: Carpet Crawlers

I love prog rock as for lyrics they can be challenging. My fave band are Van der Graff Generator, Peter Hammill certainly boggles the mind as did Yes King Crimson et all. But it adds to the music and allows to the exploratory nature of the music Like Beefhearts poetic words or Magmas home made language of Koabian, ita all part of the overall sound.

I always find Pink Floyd lyrics very clever as well. Especially on the album Animals.

Do like Roger Waters contributions, tapped into my psyche on many occasions.
