You won't know what you missed then

Burst pipes, burst water tanks in lofts that flooded through to the downstairs, walking on the Thames, even Trafalgar Square fountain froze.

Those three legged paraffin heaters to keep us warm (danger on legs) , icicles inside as well as outside the house.

Milk would freeze on the doorstep and the tops would lift off a few inches.
7 weeks of it I think.
Not to mention skidding around every corner in those wellie boots that kept nothing warm. Dead toes when we got in from school...and the pain as they warmed up... Oooooooo ! ouch !

See, that's what I'm thinking. They keep telling us it's the worst weather we have ever had but has the Thames frozen over?

Beast from the East? More like Hysteria from Siberia.

It's England, it's winter, it snows... get over it.

It would be far more newsworthy if it snowed where I live.

Anyway I do remember the winter of 62/3 I walked to school every day (where the pervading smell was of socks being dried on the radiators)

Re: The Beast From The East?

The first time I saw snow was Dec 1969 when my parents bought a house. I remember being carried in by my big brother, looking down and seeing the stuff on the ground. I was only two! We had paraffin heaters that year and everyone went down with flu.
