Neither have I but one of the men I used to work beside, was in a flat with an outside loo when he first got married. His neighbour came to the door and asked if she could pee in their sink because they had visitors

Not in my house! As children we used chamber pots, as adults we used the outside lavatory.

Disgusting filthy person! What was wrong with her using the outside lavatory?

Re: Pee in the sink?

Probably too cold! Many receptacles were used in days gone by that we would be disgusted with now. for some it was a pail in the corner. The chamber pot was used for centuries so a sink with running water might have been considered a luxury LOL

Re: Pee in the sink?

TBH I don't think it was any more acceptable to urinate in the kitchen sink then than it is now.
When people used chamber pots they were emptied well away from the kitchen, and in the manure heap on farms.
It wasn't disgusting if hygiene was still maintained as much as possible.

It probably wasn't. Mining villages and such like had a row of houses and perhaps a couple of outside toilets (with or without doors) serving the whole row. Not so easy then as it is now.

Re: Pee in the sink?

I would still never resort to urinating in the sink - it is disgusting.

Re: Pee in the sink?

At the moment you wouldn't consider it but if you were in a situation where there was no alternative? What then? LOL
