The smell of Sulphur??-how that takes me back. The Brickyards . I grew up just a sniff away from them and had swimming lessons there.

We had lots of brickworks here long ago too OG, . . the valley where I live is rich in clay deposits, . . . as kids we used to go and hang about the kilns for a heat in winter time, . . I remember the miners, that was one really hard job they did, more so than the coal miners IMO.

My mum still lives in Marston-the places I knew are now are now a Nature Park

Hee hee-the `canals` were once where the trucks ran and we were daft enough as 10 year olds to jump on them

Re: 2012 - End of days ?

I must take a pic of our Union canal, there's a massive aqueduct where the canal crosses the river Avon near Linlithgow, . . the canal was restored when they built the Falkirk wheel, it goes right into the heart of Edinburgh city.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Canal_%28Scotland%29

The info in the link is incorrect, . . . the canal does not go to Glasgow, it ends in Falkirk, . . the Forth and Clyde canal joins the two cities.

Re: 2012 - End of days ?

Watched a program last night about mega volcanoes . . . . if the one in Yellowstone blows it'll wipe the USA off the map . . . . . they'll have to redraw European maps too . . . . the dust from it could cover the whole of the UK to a depth of 12 feet . . . . . mega volcanoes seldom erupt but when they do it's catastrophic . . . the bed of the lake adjacent to the one in Yellowstone has risen 3 foot recently at the west end . . . . they know this because trees at the east end are now partially underwater . . . . the underground volcano covers a vast area known as a caldera . . . .

Lets hope she keeps her head eh.

Re: 2012 - End of days ?

There's been a lot of Programmes on about this over the past few months, I've watched some of them. I found them intersting but I'm not sure I fully believe it. The Mayans certainly knew what they were about but as you said.....they veiwed Life in Cycles and 2012 is just another one. I doubt everything will end but I do think there will be some sort of disaster around this time. Maybe another tsunami, the biggest yet, or a massive quake. But the Earth will go on, it always does as some always survive to rebuild and go forward.....Must admit though as the 21st of December grows nearer I think I'll probably start to feel more than a wee bit nervous.

It is strange the Mayans chose our hemispheres "Winter Solstice" for a catasrophe, significant, or just a one in 365 chance?

Re: 2012 - End of days ?

Now I'm just wondering whether to waste my money on christmas presents this year that nobody will get or whether to just go out and blow it all on a good knees up on the 20th and get blotto.

An attempt at suicide is usually a desperate cry for help. Arresting and criminalising is not the way to deal with them.
