Re: Garden Bridge project scrapped

I think it's a lovely idea, and it probably will happen...just not yet.

The bridge, designed by Thomas Heatherwick, would have extended from Temple on the north side of the Thames to the South Bank and featured 270 trees and thousands of plants.

The proposal was originally devised by the actor Joanna Lumley and won support from Johnson and the then chancellor George Osborne, who committed £60m of public money to the scheme.

Heatherwick said: “London needs new bridges and unexpected new public places. The garden bridge has not found its right moment, but I hope one day it will and that London continues to be open to ideas that make life here better.”

Spose the acrimony set in when it became apparent the Bridge would be built, Over Troubled Waters.

Ha ha !

It certainly was a beautiful design though.
Thomas Heatherwick is one of our most innovative designers.
He did the rolling bridge in London too.

It was certainly a nice idea but unfortunately we have squandered all our money abroad so there's not a lot left to please the people of Britain.

It was a lovely idea but there are more places that needed than London, I don't know why we are always surprised London does well, they clearly get all the advantages. Put it in a great northern town or south western town.

How would the garden bridge please the people of Britain? The vast majority of us rarely, if ever, visit London and at a cost to the public if circa £50m, the money could have benefitted a far wider public if used more effectively.
