I absolutely agree I believe these adverts are immoral and should be banned from TV .

Re: Personal Debt in the UK

The thing is Julie, while you say condone high spending on children at Christmas, it could be at the risk of a quite important bill not being paid...like the mortgage, or council tax.

So my question to those parents would be...would you prefer your children to have a roof over their heads, or the latest must have toy/tablet/smart phone/trainers?

I see it in my own family, and it makes me cross at their (forgive the cliche) not getting their priorities right.

Re: Personal Debt in the UK

These days, it's very easy to get into debt and it can soon spiral out of control. Although I have two credit cards, they are only used 'sparingly'...One card is used for occasional 'on-line' purchases, the other for occasional,(moderate) use.
My aim is always to clear the balances by the end of December/New Year and I've succeeded yet again! So we are always in control...
Maybe I'm just 'tight', but it works for me.

Regards to everyone for 2017.

That can only happen if you live beyond your means imo. The exception being some sudden unforeseen disaster that say drastically affects a business. Even so, planning and contingency should mitigate such risks.

I wasn't condoning it just saying it's not easy to see them go without. I'm not suggesting expensive trainers and things either more basics. I know when we were really hard up one year actually saying Father Christmas wasn't coming was just too hard, that's when we started doing a homemade Christmas.

They were talking about debt on radio tonight, amazing how many now have to put food, rent, utilities on credit cards or payday loans. Very scary what's going to happen soon to those people.

Of course, bankruptcy hasn't the same stigma as it once did. I would like some public posters displaying the evils of debt.

That's very true people talk about bankruptcy like its nothing, no pride in actually paying every penny borrowed back these days.
