Re: Plant pests

A few weeks ago I discovered black fly on my blackcurrant bush , it was smothered I guess due to the dry weather which puts plants under stress making them more susceptible to pests. So I sacrificed it by cutting off all the new growth containing the fly's so no fruit this year .

I thought this might help to protect my young runner beans but I discovered black fly on some of those this morning so i'm off to spray with washing up liquid water and to squish them

David Austin is very expensive dongles, but he does have some beautiful roses doesn't he, I have a few of his. His Darcey Bussell is gorgeous, and I have Munstead Wood as well. Gertrude Jekyll is a huge soft pink, a beautiful smell and thornless too, which is handy for pruning.

I think possibly my most favourite for frangrance though is one called 'Evelyn May' by Peter Beale. I stop and sniff it every time I walk by, it's out of this world.

I'll shut up now, I'm getting boring.

Re: Plant pests

After the rabbit problems the insects seem minor no black spot yet, little bit of green fly and they took a liking to my yellow top for some reason, no black fly, but slugs and snails are abundant. Trying a pet friendly slug pellet because of the dogs and we don't want to hurt the hedge hogs on site either. I'm not sure if they are working and if would be worse without them or if they aren't working and this is bad as it gets

I still keep finding slugs .
I throw them over the fence (my neighbour has no plants) so I suppose they come back

Strange that you should say that, I threw two snails over the fence on Monday last week, this morning there was a knock on the door, I opened it only to see two snails looking up at me, the biggest one said, 'why did you do that?"

Yes, I know where the door is.....'Taxiii!'
