Knitters.

Do the knitters on here check the tension before starting a knit?
I don't,but they turn out okay.At the moment I'm knitting baby things for my first grandchild due beginning February.

Re: Knitters.

Only if it's one of the wools I have never used before, I made a mistake with a kitten whisker fabric once not realising it would knit up rather smaller than I wanted, in the end I made a bed jacket but if was supposed to be a cardigan. I do a lot of free knitting with no pattern so I'm used to judging how many stitches I need.

Re: Knitters.

I don't knit, but I DO crochet.

And never bother with tension checks.

Re: Knitters.

I used to do a lot of knitting and crochet before me hands got bad, I never checked tensions, probably because I was used to my knitting and adjusted to suit me.
I tended to be a loose knitter so picked a smaller size, if that makes sense.
If I was justify learning I probably would either check tension or choose something simple, like a toy, where it doesn't matter so much.

I don't check tensions either, but I do envy you knitting for a baby. You finish them so quickly and they always look sweet.

Re: Knitters.

I once, long ago, knitted myself a scarf....wonder what happened to it ?
I still regularly wear a hand knitted sweater, knitted by my first wife more than forty years ago
