Unfortunately, one of the strict rules of membership of our present 'club' is that we may not, under any circumstances, agree our own mutually beneficial reciprocal trade agreements with anyone.

They like to be in charge of that sort of thing.

I think I'm just having trouble getting my head around this notion of 'clubs' ... whether it's the EU or the Commonwealth.

Or is it a case of Australia feeling miffed and not wanting to trade or wants to get a pound of flesh for feeling miffed? I must be missing the point.

Australians seems to me to be too pragmatic to be bothered.
Business is business. You trade or you don't.

Hi

Australia is doing quite well with Trade deals on it's own.

So where's the free trade agreement with the EU?

It will probably take several more years to thrash out, I expect.

The trade deal with the EU was quite well advanced but with the absence of Britain is not as interesting as it once was and I think, as suggested in that article, that Australia will play hard ball with the UK because European trade is not that important to Australia. Australia has had a lot of experience negotiating trade deals.

What has affected us is Trump pulling out of the proposed Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) with the Federal government scrambling to keep it alive with the rest of the signatories.

China, Japan, USA and Korea are our major trading partners (in that order from memory and with whom we have trade agreements), UK is about 7th or 8th and even NZ rates higher than the UK.

Why has this been moved to the Brexit Forum? It is not about Brexit, it is about trade and government.

It does now that we don't have a decent discussion thread.
You are always banging on about free speech Goldie, but it appears that the Brexiters are not allowed to answer any of your criticisms. 'Free Speech and rights' should be for everyone and not just those who voted to remain even when they moved abroad and shouldn't really have been entitled to a vote anyway....
