Well, yes, I suppose that would result in some sort of 'peace'!
Hi
NATO was set up to protect Europe from Stalin.
The EU was set up to protect Western Europe from fighting amongst itself, which we had been doing for 100's of years.
Unfortunately, it was France, in the shape of De Gaul, who had illusions of power, who blocked the entry of the UK for years,
Now we have France threatening the UK again.
Such is life, they think they have the whip hand, witness the posts from Flicker.
Time will tell, if push comes to shove and the French carry out their threats to impose a bad deal to crush us it will be a sad day.
It is however their choice.
They can have as many Bataclans as they want, they get naff all from us.
Withdrawing the Bilateral Agreement about Immigration and Customs in France?
We will deal with that threat straight away.
The EU has a policy of detaining and then destroying all vessels and vehicles used for people smuggling and prosecuting those involved.
When we leave the EU we play by our Rules.
We would not for example, seize all Polish Lorries coming to the UK if they had illegals on board, we work well with them in our mutual interest.
We can however stop and do a detailed search of any French Vehicle or any vehicle carrying French Goods arriving in the UK.
We can then seize that vehicle if it is carrying illegals and sell the vehicle and it's entire contents to pay our costs.
Flicker is absolutely right, we cannot discriminate against French Goods, we must offer them exactly the same rate of Duty as our most favoured nation status.
The French have been very busy trademarking their goods.
Champagne for example can only come from a specific region of France, so must Beaujolais and Burgundy.
Perfectly legal under WTO Rules to put a premium of 1000% on such wines.
Very sad if we have to, but two can play hardball.
