Steam Cleaners

We have a carpet shampooer but I'm not keen - bloomin heavy thing and a nightmare to empty and clean it out
I'd like a steam cleaner but unsure if they will clean a carpet - does anyone use one ?

Re: Steam Cleaners

We used to use a steam cleaner thought it was the bees knees until we got a Bissell carpet cleaner then we realised how it hadn't really done the job very well at all
I can recommend the Bissells and mine is no heavier than a dyson vacuum but moves along the floor much easier.

Re: Steam Cleaners

Ooo I don't know gal - they are a pain to clean, even though Fabs does it - I help - he stands the big heavy thing on the draining board to drain the water out - I can't stand it

I like the idea of a steam cleaner as long as its worthwhile, there's only the 2 of us and we don't come in off the street, so can't be too bad ..............

Re: Steam Cleaners

I think the steam cleaner is great for hard surfaces. On carpets it certainly gives them a nice'freshen up' but doesn't do anything like a shampoo-er does ... how could it, it just issues forth steam, no detergent etc.

I'm perfectly happy using the vaccuum and very occasionally running the steamer over to sort of bring up the pile. I wouldn't use it to e.g. try to clean a grubby spot

My Bissell has removable buckets Patsy you never have to lift anything heavy to empty them.

Re: Steam Cleaners

I'm told steam cleaners only sanitise the carpet because if you think about it , it has no suction properties with which to remove any dirt.

Re: Steam Cleaners

My friend has a Bissell cleaning and she loves it.
I have a steam cleaner which is great for zapping tiles
and dirty floors. I have zapped the carpets with it too
but it didn't clean as such as it only its the top of the
pile and not deep down in a pile carpet.
We have had a leaflet through the door this week for carpet
cleaners. It was half price and was £29 for a 12 x 12ft room.
Only thing I feel about that is moving all the stuff in a room.
My settee weighs a ton. Good luck with it.

Re: Steam Cleaners

@Julie
gal - what am I like
Our cleaner has the bucket ! I says to Fabs - why do you put it on the bloomin draining board then !
He says to 'thoroughly' clean it out - you can't do that on the floor !
Well he's right, fluff and muck gets everywhere in the bits and brushes - oh its all too much fer me
