I used to do the same as your Dad, Cass. Open both ends and push the block of meat right through. I always felt that was much safer, silly fiddly things they are/were.

I've inherited my Mum's electric one (Kenwood I think) and it's grand. I chill my corned beef tins in the fridge and open them all the way round with that and push the meat out. Touch wood, haven't had any cut fingers yet.

I have had a simple, no nonsense, does the job WL Housewares tin opener for donkeys years. Its one of those old much loved kitchen utensils that you have that your heart sinks if you cant find it and you search everything till with a sigh of relief..it's found.
