I don't like driving at the best of times, especially in places I don't know well so if I'm going to York I go on the train from Leeds. I'm lucky to live not too far from Leeds which isn't far from York.

I have no aversion to the use of public transport, providing that it is reasonably priced and, most importantly, reliable.

However, if I have a lot to carry, shopping for example, the car is always my first choice.

It does, doesn't it?

I remember, I think it was in 1968, that the old tubular mast fell down! They put up a temporary replacement very quickly (though I think I missed a few episodes of Coronation Street at the time), then this concrete structure was built. It is unique in the country. I remember there was some talk at the time of allowing visits to the viewing area near the top but. of course, health and safety scotched that.

Some lovely photos there, JBR.

Runswick Bay is an excellent place to look for fossils and semi precious gem stones. Found a beautiful chunk of Blue Lace Agate last time I was there.

Whitby one of my all time favourite places - my leg muscles remember those steps very well!

St Mary's Abbey - lovely place but why is the grass pink ?
