Re: Will Israel survive?
It goes back all the way back to Isaac & Ishmael.
In the Torah (Old Testament), Abram, (Abraham) has two sons, Isaac and Ishmael.
Sarai, (Sarah), a Hebrew woman, was the mother of Isaac and Hagar, an Egyptian Hand Maiden, was the mother of Ishmael.
Sarah later urged Abraham to expel Ishmael and his mother, saying: "
Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that slave woman's son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac" and that's loosely the beginning of the rift and the hatred between what became the Muslims and the Jews.
It's said that Ishmael and Hagar are buried near the Kaaba, the centre of Islam's most sacred mosque, Al-Masjid al-Haram, in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
I've worked in the Middle East but I've also met Israelis, one time in Iran believe it or not, and Jews are far more similar to Muslims than they are different yet this rift and hatred may never be healed.
It's very similar in many ways to the hatred Sunnis feel for Shias and that's never likely to change either. stevmk2
