Re: Plastics and the Oceans

When I lived in the Carribean I found a turtle barely alive on the beach .
It was picked up by the turtle people who took it to a vet .
It was later euthanesed as its whole digestive system was blocked with plastic .

Well done The Mail for its campaign against the overuse of plastics.

Truly a great campaigning newspaper. They deserve to be newspaper of the year once again, next year.

I have seen this too where I live. Plastic shopping bags are the greatest problem because in the water, the bags look like jellyfish, which are one of their primary food sources.

Sea turtle deaths, which control jellyfish populations, have been the impetus for banning the use of plastic shopping bags in places like Hawai'i and California.

It's about time somebody invented an efficient way of recycling or destroying the stuff. Materials should not be used before a successful way of disposing of them can be found....If somethings indestructible what did they think was going to happen eventually.....

Our thieving bastards added 20c to the cost of a bottle (including glass) and give you 10c back.

Re: Plastics and the Oceans

It could be a long hard slog, to get plastics under control.

Don't know which country it is , maybe someone will recognise the language.

Re: Plastics and the Oceans

The government could do a lot to help the banning of plastic by making it unlawful to wrap so much food in it. We don’t need fruit wrapped in plastic for example, meat can be wrapped in biodegradable bags as our local butcher does. Milk can be returned to glass bottles etc etc it’s not rocket science.
