Re: Brexit backstop

the terms and small print of EU membership was never and has never been explained in clear, crystal clear language to the populace of UK. Your original membership may very well have been advantageous - you cannot expect 'joe blogs' and the end of the street to negotiate all the finer details - that's why we have elected 'clowns'

but selling your own people down the swanney if that is what has happened is unforgiveable. it would seem that the EU has become a 'cash cow' for some but who is sharing out the cash?

SF
the Irish govt has said that there must be no border which would break the Belfast Agreement if the EU does not want Ireland to veto the final agreement.
The EU respects the wishes of its member state.

Both EU and the UK have promised there will be no hard border.

The situation we are in was designed, constructed and implemented by the EU.

Article 50 is not a piece of legislation that is fit for purpose with regard to a major economy and contributor such as the UK . It was designed to facilitate smaller nations as the EU, in it's pomposity and arrogance, assumed that a major country like the UK ( or France, Germany or Italy) would ever leave.

The 2 year time frame is fine for the smaller economies but not for the bigger ones.

Still, that's what we have to work with. The EU , in typical intransigent fashion, would not extend the time frame exept through a 'transitional' arrangement and so that's what we are lumbered with.

Not our fault !

As for businesses.........They will cope, they will continue to trade. Business prefers certainty but , by nature, operates always in constant flux.

Brexit doesn't change that.
Errmmm...it was Lord Kerr, UK, who wrote the A50 into the Lisbon Treaty.
All countries are integrated into the EU as all laws apply equally.

You are proud of being the world's 6th largest economy...just how do you think you got to that position?

and you make shedloads of money from your passporting of services.

You have done extremely well out of the EU mate. And you didn't even have to negotiate trade deals which are advantageous due to the size of the collective EU market.

Just try it yourselves.

Hi

No, No and No.

We have given an absolute Guaranty that we will not impose any Border Controls.

Problem solved.

If there are to be any Border Controls they will be made by Varadkar and the EU, not the UK.

Their choice, their decision.

I will not be held to Ransom.

We simply need to tell them to get stuffed and put the |boot on the other foot.

Any hard Border will be imposed by Ireland and the EU, not the UK.

We do not want any such Border, but if you choose to impose one, we will react.

There will be no more Common Travel Area

Work Permits for any Irish wanting to come here.

A refusal to allow any Irish HGVs without them paying road tax to transfer across the UK.

winner winner, we just need the guts to do it.

Vradkar has refused this, time to deal with him.

We need to let others know we are not an easy target and prove a point.

Bye Bye Varadkar

Flicker, you are responding to gumbuds post, but he lives in Australia.
I believe they are the 11th highest economy, and yes they did do that by themselves!
