Re: Mammograms

Yes Mups, as Pats says, you are offered regular screening up to the age of 70 but may request a screening after that age.

Full screening details here... http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/breast-...roduction.aspx

That's good news if I live to 70 I would still be wanting them annually, for me it's a no brainer we should be doing what we can to protect ourselves.

Re: Mammograms

I would just like to say that the mammograms are a help but please don't assume you are ok till your next visit..... always check for lumps on a regular basis. I had my mammogram and 10 months later I found a lump which proved to be cancer. Tumours grow fairly quickly and the faster you get it checked the better chance of survival you have.

I agree but it's nice to get the all clear and be double checked IMO.

I know what you mean Julie, but there is always a chance that some would think that a 3 year repeat mammogram means they are ok till then. I suspect we are all guilty of thinking " Good, we will be ok till the next time" so I just wanted to alert people to the fact that they are not and should still check themselves.

Re: Mammograms

A few years ago a routine mammogram showed up a lump. My wife and I were horrified. Further investigation found it to be a cyst. The Doctor simply inserted a needle and drew it off. We watched on the screen as it shrunk away to nothing. So don't think the worst if anything does show up, it doesn't always prove to be cancerous.

All done and back home, got there 15mins early as sometimes it's a job to park. Went straight in and back home by appointment time.
