Old knitbone.

This is about the herb Comfrey - also known as old knitbone for it's ability to help broken bones heal.

I've been rubbing it in the skin of my fractured ankle twice a day in the hope that it will help my bone heal.

Just lately I've had to stop using it. The skin where I've rubbed the comfrey ointment has gone dead and is peeling off in great big pieces!

OMG - it shouldn't do that should it?

Oh dear! we used to use it on our allotment as an organic fertiliser!

I was wondering if Realist had any opinions about Comfrey as he seems to believe in natures ingredients...

No it shouldn't. Are you sure you have the right plant? It is easy to confuse with foxglove.

Hi Realist - I should have said Comfrey ointment - not the plant itself!
It's called Avena Comfrey Ointment.
They have a website - I'm going to go on it and see what I can find out.

I think comfrey does contain some toxic stuff.
think you have to be careful even with herbal remedies

Never used comfrey as a medicinal herb but it sure does stink in it`s preparation to be used as liquid fertiliser
