What time is it where you are Bobby? It's 4.50am here right now. I finish at 6 so I'll be in my pit about 7.

Re: YES: My favourite band. Analysis, thoughts about Yes or/& any derivative

This is one of my favourite songs but to be honest, there are so many I liked
Wonderous Stories.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=9-BMlq_zyko

This is from a live show they did in California. It doesn’t feature Chris Squire. Apparently Tony Levin was sick so they hired a guy ( Jeff Berlin) who learned all their songs in TWO DAYs! Can you imagine how competent a player the guy had to be to learn enough YES songs for a concert in TWO DAYS. Wow! While he’s no Chris Squire , you’ve gotta give the guy major points for even pulling it off . While this song is 18 minutes long, it really features how incredible these musicians truly are.
There’s Rick Wakeman surrounded by at least half a dozen keyboards and synthesizers. Jon Anderson singing as usual. Steve Howe on guitar . ( friggin amazing ) Bill Bruford on drums , not Alan White but he’s not too shabby.
I was impressed. It’s well worth the watch.
Truly!

One thing I think was really unfortunate was how long it took to have this band inducted into THE HALL of FRAME. Unfortunately it was after the death of Chris Squire whom in my opinion was one of the main contributors of the band.

Great post, Nikki!

I also love WS... it is so ethereal and flowing.

Funny you mention Jeff Berlin. He is one of a very few bassists who has been on the forefront of Jazz and Fusion since the 70's. I've followed his career since he was at Berklee College of Music. I know the concert very well. I'll say more later on that and RR Hall of Fame.

Night!

Re: YES: My favourite band. Analysis, thoughts about Yes or/& any derivative

An analysis and history of the album Fish Out of Water, Written and performed by Chris Squire in 1975 with guest appearances by Bill Bruford, Patrick Moraz, Andrew Pryce-Jackman, and Mel Collins. Nikki Squire, his first wife, sings background vocals.

I'll feature one track per posting EXCEPT for this video which flows into Track II, "And you by My Side"

Track I: "Hold Out Your Hand"
This track featured the organ and Sub-Organist of St Paul's Cathedral, Barry Rose, who was Chris and Andrew's choir director years before!
Also, Bill Bruford, the original (and greatest, in my opinion) drummer for Yes, plays drums. Andrew arranges or co-arranges many of the tracks but refused co-arranger status out of his friendship with Chris. I first saw this video when I was around 11 and it blew my mind. Hope you enjoy!

One last post tonight because Hold Out Your Hand is referenced on this song by The Syn (reunited with a few original members). Background vocals by Chris Squire. Duh!
Smoking hot lead, too!
