Americans pronounce it "noo" of course, but I haven't noticed Brits saying it like this.
Perhaps it's yet another Americanism which our youth have adopted due to their lack of grammar in favour of believing the American pronunciation is the correct method.

Floydy, l don’t think Frank Sinatra sang, Noo York. It definitely sounded like New York to me!!
