How far do we go? What happens to wildlife when it is shoved out of it's environment?
It gets killed on the new roads it becomes a nuisance ie an urban fox and is classed as vermin and is poisoned
We will become a nation where children will only see wildlife in a zoo and nature on National Geographic .
All the villages around here ( wiltshire) the fields are being built on and the infrastructure is under stress .

So I think it safe to say that Mrs Thatchers achievements were greater than the two of us put together....

Re: Thatcher

Margaret Thatcher our longest serving Prime Minister by a long way in recent years closely followed by Tony Blair, also our most criticised premiers. They must have been doing something right to be so successful at the polls. I know Blair will be always be associated with the Iraq war.

It's sad isn't it. Once our countryside has been eaten up with new housing, it will never return.

Re: Thatcher

Not a fan of Thatcher.

She was too dogmatic and failed to look forward to the consequences of her policies.
For every winner, under Thatcher, there were many losers and for every policy that had a positive impact, the negatives were ignored.
for example.....She broke the Unions.
Few would deny the Unions needed taming. However, the victims were the families and communities of those workers that she failed to support and who were left to sink.
Those communities are STILL struggling today because they have been ignored and payed lip service to ever since. The final kick in the teeth for them was the mass influx of cheap labour from the EU.... and that's Brexit in a nutshell.

Also , using the Police as here private Black Shirts was unforgiveable and the Police are for ever tainted as a result....Uniformed thugs!

2) Selling off Social Housing. A great idea that gave many a stake in their communities in a way they had never had before.........But NOT building more houses from the proceeds and NOT allowing social housing to be built in any numbers since has created the housing crisis we see today and the conversion of vibrant , owner occupied estates into expensive private rented ghettos.

3) Privatisation.......Many people made a quick profit but now practically all utilities and service companies are foreign owned and are over charging us for essential services.

etc etc!

Cc...the area of land afforded by any country does not have a bearing on the size of the sustainable population. Of the 93% some is mountainous, some lies on flood plains, and some is required to grow crops to feed the population. Where would you suggest we obtain our food from? Perhaps reliance on the french or germans?

Schools, hospitals and industry also takes up it's fair share of land providing jobs for that same population. Roads and railways are the arteries of any country improving the movement of goods and people.

A country is described as 'full' when utilities and services have not kept up with the swift increase in the population over the last twenty years. Try making an appointment at your local surgery or hospital to realise that there are more people than we can comfortably cope with. It's no good inviting ten people to stay at your house if you have only three bedrooms....

Exactly.
I've said it before; the best PM we've had in my lifetime.
