Re: The House of Lords versus freedom of the press

Personally I think elected hol could work if it was done well. I'd like to see independents only in there no party political lines at all, I wouldn't make it an instant change though I'd like to see them phased in over a ten year period that way it might be possible for lords who want to remain to become elected members.

I'd like to see them as a smaller body, the commons too IMO could easily be halved, but appoint each MP with two helpers who can do surgeries etc.

I agree with that I'd move it to middle of the country to so it can be more inclusive and less londoncentric.

Re: The House of Lords versus freedom of the press

I think we need a second house, but with a maximum of perhaps 400 and as a qualified advisory body staffed by life's achievers rather than the abject failures in life that fill the benches at present, most of whom just roll up to keep their snouts in the government gravy machine.

If not then the system of elevation through favours and patronage, practised by all parties, needs to end, and at the very minimum the numbers should be limited to no more than the number of MPs with peers being forced to retire at 70.

Having said all that though nothing will change anytime soon, too many vested interests will see to that.....
