HIV pill

Do you think it's right for the NHS to supply the new `Prep' drug at £400 per person per month to prevent infection from HIV and AIDS?

What's wrong with using condoms all of a sudden? No one should be having unprotected sex in this day and age with all the risks involved and this drug now circumvents that need for safety.

There was a fat leftie social worker on the tv trying to tell the interviewer that gays sometimes don't have the time or ability to use condoms, Bollox.
If you drive a car and don't use the seat belt and you are in a crash and thrown through the window it's your own fault. Why should I pay for your treatment? Self inflicted injuries..tough!

Re: HIV pill

I'm with you on this one Judd, we were saying just the same earlier. If they can't be bothered to protect themselves for a few pence then why should the taxpayer fork out thousands to do it for them?

It seems though that no-one is responsible for their actions anymore generally, it is always laid at the door of the state as if they had no control over their own actions....

Re: HIV pill

Still thinking about this one, but I was somewhat gobsmacked to read in the link that the NHS said it was not responsible for it as it is preventative. So why do they encourage all that statin prescribing if not for preventative reasons??

Hi

I agree it sounds weird, but that is the split in England.

Public Health England was hived off to Councils and what it is responsible for is somewhat strange.

As for should they pay?

Well the argument used is that if we charged them for treatment if they contracted HIV, we should then charge the obese if they get diabetes.

It is the personal responsibility thing as other posters have said.

Re: HIV pill

The worrying thing is, if people are promiscuous they could, perhaps, pass HIV on to their next partner even though they're protected themselves.
I agree they should use condoms.

Re: HIV pill

No it isn't right for the NHS to fund this.
Condoms cost to the NHS...
Next to nothing.
Cost to the NHS for someone who can't be bothered.
£400 a month.
So it just has to be...

Don't be silly.

Or.

Re: HIV pill

Does not matter who has the bill councils or NHS, its the taxpayer who pays in the end.

Re: HIV pill

"in the end" seems quite appropriate.
