Re: Is America Right To Give Citizens The Right To Own Such Deadly Weapons?

Sorry but one of our American cousins said that the reason for hunting deer is to control the numbers, another that the deer predators are getting into towns.
Apparently wild boar get into crops too, don't you have electric fences over there?

To make it clear I have no problem at all with hunting, shooting or fishing, but using that as the reason to allow access to automatic weapons is a poor excuse.

For my part America you can keep your definition of freedom, I much prefer the freedom to go about my daily business without the fear of having to pull my gun to protect myself from somebody that got out of bed the wrong side.

Your post does not mention concern about gun violence.
Sure sounds to me like you are trying to control other people
and keep them from hunting.
you need to read my other posts if you think that.

In case I was unclear- you need to read my posts in succession to get the full picture.

I dont know much about guns although I used to skeet shoot years ago .
Not sure what you're saying there Muddy.
Semi auto shotguns are limited to 3 shots in the Uk. One in the chamber and 2 in the magazine. Shotguns are not .22??

Are you getting shotguns confused with .22 rimfire rifles?

.22 shotshells are not worth a carrot on anything more than small vermin at (very) close range. In a semi auto they rarely have enough energy to cycle the action and have to be manually cycled. A 6ft lbs air pistol would be more of a danger! They border on being a novelty in the shooting world.

Ah, ok.

But as I said they are limited to 3 rounds only.
Yes, you can buy .22 lr semi auto's in the Uk, but restrictions are still very tight.

With .22lr, yes they can be deadly, but shot placement is absolutely paramount.
There is a world of difference between a semi auto in say 5.56 Nato / 7.62 short (AK 47) / .223 etc.

With ref to Swims link, these rounds are almost a novelty. Useless beyond maybe 3m due to pattern spread and the reduction in velocity.

As Bakerman may confirm, the Americans call them "Birdshot"

As we are not really a nation of shooters, misinformation / exaggeration is common and easily believed.
