Re: Eye Test

I think Jazzi is right here, over 60 you get a free eye test on the N HS, but if you ask for one before the two years is up then it is chargeable if nothing is found to be wrong, thereby making it clinically unnecessary.

Re: Eye Test

Well I had my Eye Test yesterday @ Specsavers.

I don't care what others may say, I got pretty good service but my wife had to be there because i really can't manage this kind of thing on my own now.

The optometrist was good but he was an Asian and I have enough problems already without having to try to cope with an accent but he was marvellous and really understanding and bloody patient, (I'm hard work - really!) so in the end we got there and my new glasses will be costing me £45.

This is less than the last time so I am very happy, especially as our little FIAT Punto had it's MOT and full service yesterday too and sailed through with no problems at all.

So, new glasses next week and perhaps then I'll stop jabbing a flat screwdriver into a pozzi-drive screw! stevmk2

Re: Eye Test

Eye test are free every 2 years unless you have glycoma or is in the family, then it is every year. That is for OAP patients

The optician takes your national insurance number and submits it to the DHS who pay for it.

New glasses for £45? They must be very basic - S/S quoted £150 for mine - bi-focal, rimless, with thin lenses and anti-scratch. I got them elsewhere for close to half that price.

That's a bit rude not everyone can afford expensive specs we have to stick to basic.

Re: Eye Test

Be very, very grateful you don't live in Australia. My last pair here - multi-focal and a complex prescription - cost $900 (£460) and I get about $200 off that from private health insurance so when we were in London last July I got a new pair at Specsavers and they cost me less than half that with thinner lenses than I've ever had and designer frames.

Of course I didn't qualify for over-60 with not being a resident but it was still half the price I pay here. The optician said they often have Australians buying several pairs at once.
