Re: The greatest drummer ever

Was going to say Dave Clark!

Seriously, I'd go with Sandy Nelson too.

Re: The greatest drummer ever

Most drummers can't hold a rhythm, a beat maybe.
Sandy Nelson excelled in that even when changing tempo

Re: The greatest drummer ever

I am fortunate to have seen John Hiseman in Colosseum

It was all part of that big gaggle of jazz/rock/blues musicians in the early 1960s that produced so many famous groups

Re: The greatest drummer ever

Reminds me of Bernard Szajner, a lighting technician who specialized i turning light into sound. He built and patented the Laser harp one of which he gave to Jean Michelle Jarre. He also built a drum machine that made mistakes, as he found the sound was too clinical and perfect as all drummers make mistakes and errors that enhance the effect.

Jaki Liebezeit (Can) was another great drummer i was privileged to see live.

Re: The greatest drummer ever

Gene for me, but read this quote

Gene Krupa will forever be known as the man who made drums a solo instrument. He single-handedly made the Slingerland Drum Company a success and inspired millions to become drummers. He also demonstrated a level of showmanship which has not been equaled. Buddy Rich once said that Gene was the "beginning and the end of all jazz drummers." Louie Bellson said of Gene, "He was a wonderful, kind man and a great player. He brought drums to the foreground. He is still a household name."

Re: The greatest drummer ever

Sorry but those two are a good examples of having no rhythm. All they are doing is hitting drums without any purpose. if it wasn't for the band behind them they would be laughable.
