dropped my Nikon D800

Yes and I am absolutely sick over it as well and thought I had if fixed on a tripod head clamp but it wasn't in properly and it fell breaking the camera top screen. The lens was on and the hood took the impact and although cracked in a split superglue did the trick

The camera is insured just a question now of ringing up the insurers to see if they nominate a repairer or let me take it to a local one.

Who is right pissed off now???

Doh!

I trashed the top LCD on my D800 a few years back by getting the camera soaked. The top line of digits is a mess! Nikon anted 450 for a replacement. I just use the info in the viewfinder or hit the back display button.

rang insurance company this morning and they said send in the claim form (which is now in the post) . so got to wait to see what they say. Never made any insurance claim on any camera equipment when they check up, so fingers crossed even though I am liable for the first 100

Sorry to hear that RS. It's gutting when things like that happen. I once dropped my camera and had it repaired but it was never the same.

Looks like you dented the camera body too - that’s gonna cost!

Re: dropped my Nikon D800

While waiting the insurers I have a new baby on the way. it is a Nikon D810 the upgrade from the D800.

Before anyone shouts out about grey imports against official imports consider this. I have just ordered a grey import costing 1,000 ( yes you did read it correctly) less than some main stream official outlets here in the UK. To me it is a no brainer, a 1000 profit to a retailer is a complete rip off, no wonder people like me go for grey imports.

A grey import for those who don't know is exactly the same camera but not sold through official retailers.

Some manufactures say they won't repair but there are many others that will so no problem there to my mind anyway. Also that doesn't stop having them insured to cover costs

So my plan is to keep the D800 if it is repairable and possibly sell the D300 with all the extras, I have not made my mind up just yet as it is still a great camera, the only thing wrong is the button markings are a bit worn.

Re: dropped my Nikon D800

Ger imports vary a lot with the company. Find one with a UK presence that gives a UK warranty of their own and you're good to go.

The D810 was a big upgrade from the D800.

Me - I'm waiting for D850 stock and a few more real user reviews with production models
