Has Scott Walker Been Missing From Your Life?

If the answer to this big question is YES, we must remedy this sad situation asap. The VOICE has covered an unprecedented and quite amazing range of styles over the past five decades.

You may have heard a few of his old tracks on the radio (the usual ones)but have you had the cosmic pleasure of such tracks as: Archangel, I Don't Want to Hear it Any More, The Ballad of Sacco And Vanzetti, It's Over (not that one), The House Song, Sundown, The Amorous Humphry Plugg, Come Next Spring, Such a Small Love, Montague Terrace (in blue), Rawhide, In My Room, After the Lights Go Out, Always Coming Back to You, Angelica. You may have heard some of his versions of Jacques Brel (Scott brought his work to the Brits)like My Death, but have you heard Funeral Tango? And for those open minded enough, how about a bit of avant garde with The Cockfighter, Manhattan, Patriot, Jolson and Jones and Cue.

Ideally they should be played on a half decent player and LOUD. For those who haven't seen the much belated film documentary on Scott and his work you might wish to have a butchers at this short clip:

No, he doesn't. He last sang live in public in about 1973. He was born Jan 43.

Have you heard his birthday message to David Bowie (some years ago now):

I went to see them in Manchester ( I think 1967) and was so excited because I thought they were fantastic. Sadly their performance, at the Palace Theatre, was very disappointing because their voices were not as powerful as they were on their records.... they were still good looking though

He has complained about the poor sound systems in those days. Here's a cracker Scott sang live in the late 60s (someone recorded it off the telly). He never put it on record.

Turn up the volume and play till the end:

Thanks for that, it seems he had a more powerful voice than his sound systems displayed.

Re: Has Scott Walker Been Missing From Your Life?

I liked the Walker Brothers although I must admit I was a little young when they were singing their songs. Also baffled me why they chose to call themselves the Walker Brothers when they were not even related.? I suppose that is one of the reasons they could split and all go their own ways.
But there were more pressing things on my mind in the late 60s like school football and of course girls.
But they did grow on me as I got older.

Couple of my favs.

Oh Gawd. Lights of Cincinnati, eh. There's a lot more to Scott than the Radio 2 playlist.

Try say, the similar in style, The Ballad of Sacco And Vanzetti followed by I Still See You.

And crank up the volume.
