Censorship of the Internet

Is it time we actually censored what can be seen ? Many young people are watching some awful stuff makes them think violence in sexual relationships is normal. Others are being radicalised by what they watch, sat in a bedroom almost hypnotising themselves into committing awful acts on the general public.

So is it time to rethink what we allow to be seen ?

Yep. The argument about this being an infringement on civil liberties is flawed. Apart from anything, there are sites which, if visited or even attempted to visit, would lead to arrest and prosecution. Obviously there are ways round it by using IP untraceable browsers. Those seem to be the first thing to deal with.

I don't think we need censorship - what we need is bans on 'substances' in food that are known to make people dumb. Like gluten - a known neurotransmitter blocker, that can make permanent changes to the brain when fed in the formative years.

The Romans knew exactly what they were on about when they said "bread and circus".

Hi

As far as I am aware gluten does not show people how to make TATP or encourage beheadings.

Neither am I totally convinced that a gluten free diet would be an effective method of defeating ISIS

I'll say this for your posts Azz, they are certainly original. First time I've ever heard of gluten being the reason for pornography and violence but if that's all it is then I guess we can all carry on taking the drink and drugs with impunity...

Re: Censorship of the Internet

You Tube and Face Book should definable be censured for their vile lying videos and the producers should be heavily fined.
After the awful terrorist attack on Manchester City there appeared a video stating that the whole thing was a hoax and they had use photos of dead children who died years ago.
The Producers of these lying videos should be heavily fined as well as the sites for allowing them to be published for millions to see.

Also defaming The Royal Family as well stating that they are reptilians and pedophiles, as well as eating children.

It should not be allowed

And another thing Hitler was a strict vegetarian and eat Jews for breakfast. One of the most evil man in history.

Re: Censorship of the Internet

Censorship will do nothing to control those areas popular tabloid opinion would like to ban - they would just move deep into the dark web and increase their encryption.
The problem is that these sites are the pretext whereby unscrupulous politicians and their shadowy backers will seize control of those parts of the web that are basically fine but still present some sort of threat to the would-be censors.

Tory policy in its manifesto.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May wants sweeping new powers for her government to seize indiscriminate control of the internet.

Towards the bottom of the Tory manifesto published on Thursday, there is a technology section that clearly states the party’s intent to control the online world through new regulations.

“Some people say that it is not for government to regulate when it comes to technology and the internet,” the manifesto states.

“We disagree.”

Senior Tories confirmed to BuzzFeed that the phrase actually means implementing new legislation that would allow the government to have control over any material posted, shared, and published online.

The government justified its new manifesto pledge on the basis that online criminal activities should be prosecuted with the same severity as those offline.

“Our starting point is that online rules should reflect those that govern our lives offline,” the Conservative manifesto says.

“It should be as unacceptable to bully online as it is in the playground, as difficult to groom a young child on the internet as it is in a community, as hard for children to access violent and degrading pornography online as it is in the high street, and as difficult to commit a crime digitally as it is physically.”

I can't see that stopping terrorists or violent sexual offences.
