No matter how many fire doors they fit if the fire is spreading through the ducting !
Those holes should have been sealed with fire retardant foam (it comes in aerosols so is easy to use). We use it at work whenever we have to drill from one room to another.

Re: Would you stay ?

I wouldn't live in a tower block in a town I would rather live in an empty barn or any old tatty house in the countryside.

Living cheek by jowl with other humans would be my idea of hell.

Thank you for that I'll take that up too. We were built in 1989 and were awarded plaques for excellence we've spent all these years pointing out how those plaques meant very little

It's often not a choice Meg. People are told go where the work is, well when they do they end up like this cheek by jowl.

There is work in the countryside Julie if you are not choose what you do and don't feel the need to have lots of money and possessions.

Do you really think it's love of posessions keep people in flats ? I don't think love of money or posessions really comes into it, a roof over our heads, schools for kids and hospitals etc are what keep many of us in them

Re: Would you stay ?

If you are in a totally dangerous situation, where you and your family are at the highest possible risk level, you will only have one thought - to get out!

Our technicians and advisors , can put up all the notices they like but panic will reign supreme.

We should have learned from what has happened at football grounds, etc., that chaos and the resulting panic will not listen to guidance "to be patient" especially when those giving the guidance have not been involved in the panic themselves.

Rule 1 - stay alive & keep your family alive.
Rule 2 - Make your own decision based on what you see happening and the ability of rescuers to reach you.
Rule 3- Go back to rule 1.

I might be criticised by the authorities for saying this - but I won't be dead!

Re: Would you stay ?

I agree as I said we've as a block talked it over and agreed a strategy but who knows if chips were down exactly what we would do ? I hope I'd stop to get Vera from her flat, elderly lady can't get about much herself, but I can't promise panic won't take over and my family come first for me.

I would get out if possible but I suppose it's difficult to know what's going on twenty floors below until you get there.
