I remember the Stones version very well. It was, I think, their 3rd or 4th single release. I can remember being a little disappointed with their choice of songs for their early singles as they didn't reflect the kind of stuff they were playing for us in the clubs. It was almost as if they had two careers - the hard-nosed club R&B band, and the pop singles band.
