RIP Achilles
We have some incredibly sad news to share with all of our supporters, especially those who joined us at our Horses Hounds and Heroes Open Day a few weeks ago. That was the day when magnificent Life Guards Drum Horse, Achilles, was ceremonially retired from service in the Household Cavalry to what should have been many years of relaxing life in the country here at the Horse Trust. Having arrived looking the epitome of health and fitness, only a few short weeks later this beautiful boy suddenly had serious trouble keeping his balance. We rushed him to hospital at the RVC and he was diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of cancer, leukaemic lymphoma. The news was utterly devasting. This silent evil disease had raced through him, without symptoms it had been impossible to detect sooner. Our vets, the RVC and the Regiment's own vet all agreed there was no other choice, he had to be put to sleep immediately. We were all so looking forward to spending time with this gentle giant, and after serving Queen and Country for so many years, he deserved his retirement. We have no words, we are all still in shock. Cancer has stolen him from us, from the Regiment that loved him deeply and from all of you. Worst of all it stole what should have been his final gentle years in the rolling Chiltern Hills. Goodnight Achilles. You are a true legend in every sense and will never be forgotten. For the full article please click on this link
