Exactly why I suggested it be done elsewhere, share the money around the country.

It's all just such bad management, all that money poured into a project with no continuity funding or any real exit plan. Honestly it beggars belief.

Re: Garden Bridge project scrapped

Well I for one would like to see a public inquiry into how £37 million was spent without a brick being laid.
Somebody needs to be held responsible for this whether it be Boris or one of his cronies who was behind it all.

On the whim of that wrinkled old degenerate Lumley we find this large amount of public money was wasted on a idea of a ruddy bridge with plants on it. When what was really needed was a new bridge to ease congestion or heres an idea a new bridge connecting the busiest circular road in London instead of a clapped out ferry service.
I would say if you want to see trees and plants grow the buggers in your gardens or go to the many local parks there are in London, and if the tourist want to look at trees and flowers they can sod off to Kew Gardens for the day.

In the meantime the public wants its money back.

Hmmm it's true Joanna Lummney does seem to jump in to support these things without thinking them out .
Poor old Gurkhas found that out

Re: Garden Bridge project scrapped

It's just another silly Millennium project like the dome and others that fell by the wayside.
Many of them were a total waste of money and 'spending for the sake of it'.

I said at the time instead of lots of silly little projects we should have had one big one to benefit the whole country for example an updated rail system 'Millennium Rail', state owned with clean up to date rolling stock/old disused lines opened up and really cheap fares .
This would have encouraged people out of their cars and off the road helping with congestion and pollution.

Although fares were low the increase in numbers should have made it possible for the system to pay its way.

Re: Garden Bridge project scrapped

For Londoners there has long been a need for a new bridge, but far to the east of the one that is being discussed here. For East London and Essex, there are few ways of crossing the river. Dartford Bridge and tunnel - was promised to be free when the original project was paid for. In fact, the cost of using it continues to increase every other year or so. Further down into London, there is the Woolwich Ferry - with long queues at most times and closed in any sort of bad weather. This is where a bridge is really required joining up the North Circular and South Circular roads. Further on westward there is Blackwall tunnel, and it is noticeable that virtually every traffic report for London contains queues and problems for this. Just two lanes in each tunnel, so much traffic, inevitable of breakdowns causing back-ups of up to an hour. Then as we stay in the east but moving towards the centre there is one further turnnel, with two-way traffice and then Tower Bridge.
For people in East London, Essex and Kent the river has become an expensive and time-consuming barrier - a bridge is so badly needed and it need not have trees, etc. just two or three lanes each way, to enable people to cross the river with some sort of ease.

Re: Garden Bridge project scrapped

I despair of things like this. 37 mill down the drain and they're not even doing it! Where did the 37 mill go??

We have pensioners who can't turn on the heating, but we can pi$$ this amount of money up the wall?

The idea, while being nice, should not even be entertained when we have other much more important issues.

Honestly, this country is run by a bunch of dipsticks!

Couldn't agree more, I was hoping an enquiry might take place but I'm guessing that would be another £10 million down the drain.
