Ban illegal sulky racing in Ireland

Every year horses are killed by illegal sulky racing on the roads in Ireland .
It also happens in the uk .
This cruel and dangerous pastime is the carried out by the traveling community who seem to have a get out of jail card for just about everything .

Errrrmmm I don't know if you've noticed, but Ireland (Eire) became a separate country in 1921. We therefore have no control over what the Irish Government permit or not as the case may be, although I do agree there should be some control over the sport (???)

It doesn't matter we can still try and change things by petitioning the Irish government !

It's not what I would describe as a sport !

This happens in the uk too but as usual if magistrates give out bamby pambly sentences to 'travellers '

Re: Ban illegal sulky racing in Ireland

I have witnessed this first hand, when driving around a bend I was faced with two horse and carts racing towards me, one of them on my side of the road. They had no regard for anything coming the other way or any regard for the horses.

I managed to pull over onto the grass verge and let them through but if it wasn't for the horse, I would have gladly crashed into the idiot on the cart.

I'm afraid they will never stop them Muddy. Travellers in Southern Eire are a law unto themselves and it has been going on for decades.
As said, it is already illegal, yet it has never stopped them, and sadly never will.
