Re: Midwifery training.

Breaking the mould I'm quite proud he's able to be a liberal modern Muslim. There are many changes in the way younger Muslims are approaching today's problems. I even know two young people who are becoming vets, that's a huge change in how Muslims have traditionally been.

It's why I am protective of them they need to be encouraged to modernise not pushed under ground as many are trying to do.

I do know of Muslim vets Julie, but male Muslim midwives, no. Liberal or not, I canīt foresee any Muslim husband allowing his wife to be intimately examined by a male midwife. I personally wouldnīt have given two hoots if the midwife had been an alien with six heads when I gave birth, but I wasnīt married to a Muslim man.

Re: Midwifery training.

The number of male midwives is growing, but it's aways up to a woman to say if they aren't comfortable with a male. I don't think he'd want to impose himself on any woman that wasn't comfortable with him. It's not just Muslim women will have a problem with a male I would guess. But he can't be expected to give up on something he really wants to do just because some people won't like it.

I didnīt imply he should give up on it Julie. I am just very surprised that as a Muslim man it is his choice of career. I hope it all goes well for him.

Re: Midwifery training.

He had a seminal moment on a bus when a lady gave birth in front of him, he said he didn't have first idea what to do but was just blown away by the amazing moment a little human popped out. That made him think about what he was doing and decide he wanted to help woman at that vulnerable time.

I think he will be fantastic at it, I've never known such a gentle caring young man. If he can't calm them with his expertise he will undoubtably calm them with his poetry, his other passion

Re: Midwifery training.

I don't think I would have appreciated having a male midwife when I gave birth to my three children.

I think it's fantastic that he's going to train in this profession . You must be very proud . Recently I was watching , one born every minute , there was a super male midwife on the programme .

Re: Midwifery training.

Yes there are more training all the time. Ive always thought male gynecologists are much gentler than female ones. So I don't think I'd mind having a male look after me at all.
