Mother and Father both went aged 70, sister aged 46.

Mum died in 1995 aged 64 from stomach cancer.

Dad died 2002 aged 75 from bowel and liver cancer having survived kidney cancer in his 40's.

(Husband died 2010 aged 51 from oesophageal cancer.)

My sister is 65 with various health issues although she is still with us.

I have no illusions that I will make old bones.

George died in 1998 aged 82 from Pancreatic and Liver Cancer, Dragon died in 2011 aged 88 from double Pneumonia.

The old fella went at 67,heart attack, took three to get the tough bugger though,mum went at 54,cervical cancer some 41 yrs ago,so I've out lived mum another 6 to get to dads age.

I'm obsessed with age - I don't know why but it's always been that way.

It didn't help that in the early 80s I had a trio of uncles who all died from heart problems in their 50s.

But that's one of the things i like about this forum: everyone is over 50 so there is a far greater likelihood of getting a sensible measured response to a question or general enquiry.

My Dad died in1662 aged 70,from sudden heart failure, he always said Mans life span was three score & ten,which he just reached Mum died in 1970 age 74,having been ill with lung cancer for several years

My old man died at 69, my Grandfather at 72. I have outlived both of them so far.

I heard on the wireless years ago that 57 (or was it 59?) was the break even age for heart attacks. If you have a heart attack at that age there is 50:50 chance of dying. Below that age the chance of surviving a heart attack is very low above that age the chances are that you will survive the heart attack. The professor talking said that he had known men in their 70s and 80s have heart attacks in the morning and be home gardening by the afternoon (he might have been exaggerating to make a point).

Personally I find that very encouraging.

My late father's eldest brother is 97. It would be kinder if he didn't go on much longer as he has dementia and his family live in the UK. His wife died this year.

I wonder how the Royals, even with access to the best medical care, live to great ages.

Well, except Princess Margaret but even she lived to 71 despite her habits.
