Re: The Gardeners harvest 2014

I haven't had gooseberries for years but did plant a couple on the allotment this year.
My best make with them was gooseberry champagne which was pale pink and wonderful. I gave my wine making book away, so must look out for another recipe for when I get enough fruit again.
As fore beetroots Caricature, ours this year are the best we have ever produced. I have already cooked for eating fresh and have a few good sized ones being prepared for making beetroot and chilli chutney. My favourite.

I'll be picking the first of mine this afternoon. Runner beans are unknown here so I brought a packet back with me from England and planted them not knowing how well they'd grow. To my astonishment, they've done much better than the French beans I planted and it looks as if I'm going to have a bumper crop!

Yes they are Mups I only planted one row of 20 beans this year and planted early with a second back up lot if the frost got the first ones. All from one packet of beans

I sure will Meg! I'm so keen to taste my runner beans I've just been out in the pouring rain to pick a few and dig up some potatoes which I'll have with a gammon steak followed by home made creme caramel .... and a glass or two of red wine!

Re: The Gardeners harvest 2014

Today I pulled up 30 white onions, 4 reds, 5 beetroots, and 2 turnips. All laid out on the racks in the greenhouse to dry out. Just hope they survive vandalism! (Padlock on the door...had windows smashed this year.)
