Re: Crochet or knitting anyone,

Janet I can probably lay claim to being the world's worst knitter I was once roped in to knit squares for a blanket than asked to desist because they were so full of holes they wouldn't keep anyone warm.

It was not for the want of trying either, I gave up on knitting in the end and stuck to sewing and embroidery.

Re: Crochet or knitting anyone,

I would love to learn. I see so many lovely pieces that were created by hand. My step-grandmother crocheted a white lacy bed cover that she layered over a solid pale blue comforter. The pattern was fairy intricate; it looked like a pastry with a powdered sugar dusting, very pretty.

I wish I could Janet. My mum is a lovely knitter. Hand knitted baby jackets are still so popular, even with young mums nowadays a great talent to have.

Re: Crochet or knitting anyone,

I'm just starting to learn to crochet. Our U3A branch started a new crafting group, and one of the members offered to show us how to crochet. That was earlier this month, and so far I've mastered basic granny squares (made eight so far, while watching telly!) and a sample-circle which'll make a decent drinks coaster!

And I'm really enjoying it, it's very relaxing (and easy to undo if you go wrong lol!).

I'm a bit of a knitter, can't crochet though. Doing little dog jumpers at the moment for the rescue and my husband is knitting squares for blankets for them.

Thank you alice it's just something we have done since we got our late Duncan he came to us with shaved coat in the depths of winter so we thought how many others needed coats. Love knitting so it's just something we do for leisure.

NO

Before her eyesight went, my late mother would knit while we all watched telly. She always had something on the go and persuaded me to try it ... 'lots of swear words' ... I found it so slow.
My knitting was nice and even and looked good but YIKES ! not only did it bore me, but it seemed quite pointless. If I actually wanted a knitted jumper or cardie, I'd go out and find something that fitted.

10 to 1, if I'd actually finished knitting a jumper it would be bound not to suit me or fit properly and, unlike sewing, you can't do any nifty alterations once the darned thing's completed.

Tried crotchet too and found that slightly more pleasurable

Re: Crochet or knitting anyone,

I used to knit a lot for my sons when they were young, also knitted a lot for my grandchildren until their arms got longer and I hated knitting sleeves for sweaters!
Now I knit little hats and blankets for babies "who are born asleep"
