I couldn't manage without a landline here, the broadband is slow in the extreme (often 1.5mb) and the mobile signal unreliable.

Yes I still have landline. I use it more than the mobile because I get 5 free hours a month to call anywhere in Europe, plus one outside Europe and 7 hours free each month to call anywhere in Spain. My internet also comes via the landline.

I think some get internet via satellite (over here that would be DISH, DirectTV, etc.). Don't think you need a landline for it, but never fooled with satellite stuff, so I could be wrong.

I have a landline because of broadband, but I never remember my number as I rarely use it

I've been making more use of my landline lately as I get free weekend calls.
